Shared Bath Renovation Materials

After the initial bathroom renovation sketches are complete and the design options have been reviewed, it’s time to bring on the materials. Finding that key material to drive the design is like a songwriter figuring out the chorus to a song, that hook that draws you in. In this case, it was the lagoa himalaya + white cement tile from coletivo muda and clé tile. The combination of the blue and white palette with a striking, but not overly busy, pattern was the clear winner. Bold but simple became the mantra of the space. Layering each new material into the design to either enhance the linear elements or deliberately contrast and soften the space with curves. A subtle but significant driver in the choice of materials was the finish, matte vs. reflective. The matte quality of the cement tile became the baseline for the design, painted wood floating shelves, a walnut ledge behind the sinks, and ceramics added additional matte textures. Glossy and reflective materials became the exclamation points of the design, drawing the eye to highlight specific spaces and moments. These subtle but deliberate choices aimed to create a balanced design through texture and contrast.

Now on to the material palette…
